Size & Lifespan

• Adult Size: 9–11 inches
• Lifespan: Approximately 7–10 years with proper care

Tank Requirements

• Minimum Tank Size: 100–125+ gallons recommended
• Temperature: 75–82°F
• pH: 7.8–8.6 (alkaline)
• Water Type: Hard water preferred

Tank Setup:

• Sandy substrate with open swimming areas
• Rock formations and caves for cover and ambush points
• Strong filtration and good oxygenation required 

Diet

• Carnivorous / piscivorous
• Feed high-quality carnivore or predator cichlid pellets
• Supplement with frozen or live foods such as krill, shrimp, mysis, or silversides
• Feed 1–2 times daily

Behavior & Compatibility

• Semi-aggressive to aggressive
• Ambush predator—will eat smaller fish
• Best kept with similarly sized Malawi haps or peacock cichlids
• Avoid small or very peaceful tank mates
• Can be kept singly or as one male with multiple females in large tanks
