Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa — popular line‑bred strain with intense red and orange coloration

Size & Lifespan

• Adult Size: Up to about 5–6 inches (medium‑sized peacock cichlid) 
• Lifespan: Around 6–10 years with proper care 

Tank Requirements

• Minimum Tank Size: 55–75+ gallons recommended for a small group or single male setting
• Temperature: 75–82°F typical African cichlid range
• pH: 7.8–8.6 (alkaline water, like Lake Malawi)

Tank Setup:

• Sandy substrate with open swimming areas
• Rockwork and caves for territories and shelter
• Strong filtration and good water movement to mimic Lake Malawi condition 

Diet

• Omnivorous: Accepts high‑quality African cichlid pellets and flake foods
• Supplement with frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, mysis shrimp, etc.
• Feed 1–2 times daily for best color and health 

Behavior & Compatibility

• Temperament: Semi‑aggressive / mildly territorial — typical peacock cichlid behavior
• Best with other Malawi haps, peacocks, and similar‑sized cichlids
• Avoid very small, passive, or overly aggressive tankmates
• Males may be kept with several females to reduce aggression
